Louise Taylor is a visual and movement artist, creating abstract, expressive and figurative oil paintings. Born in Auckland, Louise has travelled extensively and lived overseas, eventually settling in Whangaparaoa. She draws inspiration from the natural world in the beauty of the ocean meeting the land and sky.

Louise holds a BFA from the Otago School of Art, as well as postgraduate training in expressive dance and art therapy at the Tamalpa Institute, CA, where she trained as a Tamalpa Life/Art© Process Practitioner, the first and world renowned institute in movement based expressive arts therapy and education.

Louise’s oil paintings are mostly abstract and expressive but often connected to place, with landscape and figures appearing frequently. Louise’s interest in movement and expressive dance adds the ground from which her oil paintings arise, where she describes her work as “coming from the body”. Her paintings bring a sense of movement, suggestions of play and oscillating light, with deeper undertones.

Louise practices expressing out into oil paintings, continually layering paint, and “moving” the images in the painting to uncover meaning, ”expressing out onto the canvas internal landscape, the language of the dancer“, the conversation and meeting between line, colour, guided by the energy of emotion and intuition. She says “Movement is the way I connect into expressing out onto the canvas my feelings through paint and colour“.

Louise has exhibited in New Zealand, Norway, France, Scotland and the West coast of the USA since 1999, where her work has been shown in exhibitions, dance and community art events, collaborative and interactive shows, as well as many privately commissioned works.

Her home art studio and gallery space is available for private viewings.
