BRENDAN ADAMS
Potter & Mixed Media Sculptor
Artist Bio:
Brendan completed Dip FA in 1983 at Otago Polytechnic majoring in painting. The influence from studying painting can be seen in his approach to using colours and graphic detail in his pottery.
Over the years Brendan has made both domestic pottery and sculpture. He works with his partner Kathryn where they made a living from producing bright coloured slip-cast earthenware for many year. Brendan has also enjoyed combining other materials with the ceramics such as steel, brass, aluminium and wood to make sculptural work. This work has been exhibited throughout the country in major competitions and exhibitions where he has won several awards and is represented in the Auckland Museum, The Art House and other regional collections.
Since 1988, they have actively operated and contributed to various shops, studios, and galleries, while Brendan has also engaged in part-time teaching at the tertiary level. Together, they have played an integral role in the Auckland ceramic scene.
In 2021 they moved to the stunningly beautiful Matakana area and have now set up a new studio where Brendan is focusing on loose throwing and hand building pottery and his sculptural work continues to evolve.
