Gitte Dibley was born in Denmark. She started to paint early in her childhood under her father's guidance. Her father went through The Royal Danish Art Academy and was a competent teacher.

Gitte Dibley came to New Zealand in 1987. She started to get into patchwork and later patchwork collage which were sold in some of the best galleries in New Zealand.

From 2005 her interest for painting started again and she went back for more lessons with different tutors. Her paintings are now sold from art galleries and art exhibitions here in New Zealand.
