Artist Bio:
With a career spanning more than four decades in both Australia and New Zealand, Hillary Austin’s artistic journey is marked by evocative landscapes and still life's that invite contemplation and stir emotion. As the founder, owner, and operator of the Foundation Gallery & Arts Hub in Leigh (North Auckland), Hillary has made a profound mark on the community, energising the local art scene with her influential classes and celebrated exhibitions. Her gallery provides a vital space for herself and fellow artists to exhibit work and evolve their creative practices.
Now based in New Zealand, Hillary continues her explorations as an Australian expatriate painter. Her art practice centres on the pursuit of depth and volume within two-dimensional surfaces. She is also the founder of the Barefoot Artist Program for Aotearoa, supporting artists across the region.
“As an artist, I am committed to discovering ways to introduce three-dimensional qualities into my paintings and imagery. My goal is to reach into the very core of each artwork, creating pieces that invite viewers to engage beyond the surface.”
