Judith is a watercolour artist with a lifelong interest in art and a particular fascination with the way light and shadow can transform a subject. For the past ten years, she has developed her practice in watercolour, drawn to the medium's luminosity, spontaneity and ability to capture fleeting light. Her work moves between figurative and landscape subjects, with an emphasis on atmosphere and the character of a scene. Judith aims to capture the mood and feeling of the moment, allowing light and shadow to bring depth and life to her paintings. She continues to develop her skills and ideas through regular classes at the Mairangi Bay Arts Centre.

Judith enjoys the ongoing challenge of working with watercolour and the precarious balance between careful observation and the unexpected qualities of the medium. Every idea starts out as an exploration of tone, light and form and the desire to bring those elements together to capture the mood and feeling of the moment.
