Kathy is a yarn dyer specialising in luxurious alpaca yarns and other beautiful natural fibres, including silk/merino, possum/merino and Polwarth. From her dye room and shop on her alpaca farm just south of Warkworth, she brings together her love of fibre, colour and creativity.

Inspired by both vibrant, expressive hues and subtle, earthy tones, Kathy loves the unpredictable nature of dyeing. She enjoys exploring the way colours and textures merge, shift and interact, embracing the element of chance that can turn an unexpected combination into something truly beautiful.

A big part of Kathy’s work is the connection between colour and the individual maker. She particularly enjoys helping fibre artists, knitters and crocheters discover that special skein that feels uniquely theirs — something that sparks excitement and inspires their next project.

Kathy is a knitter herself and loves seeing the transformation from a simple skein of yarn into a finished garment. She also loves photographing nature, capturing the colours, textures, patterns and small details she discovers around her. The natural world is a constant source of inspiration for her dyeing, from the subtle tones of the landscape, to combinations of colour found in flowers, foliage and sky.

Through yarn and making, Kathy has made wonderful friendships and a strong sense of community. She especially loves the exciting chaos of New Zealand’s big winter fibre festivals, where she gets to meet fellow "yarnies" and crafters, share ideas and soak up inspiration.

For Kathy, dyeing yarn is about much more than colour. It’s about colour, creation and community — and the joy of finding the perfect yarn to bring someone’s next creative idea to life.
