Born and raised in the far north of New Zealand/Aotearoa, Kenmore trained and worked as a manufacturing jeweller in Auckland and London throughout the 1970’s and 80’s.

Having been in constant contact with the art world and seeing the possibilities of employing his jewellers skills in a different and interesting medium, he moved into high end bone carving and bronze casting in the early 1990’s. After several years of producing bone jewellery and sculpture and bronze dolphins, whales and seals amongst others, he decided to extend his range into native wildlife most notably the distinctive and iconic weta and the tuatara.

He has seven bronze weta as his primary product, the male and female cave weta, the male and female tree weta, the male and female giant weta and the male Mercury Island tusked weta. The Tuatara and the South African praying mantis also feature in his work.

The most recent additions have been male and female humpback whale, the female with a calf, mounted on laser engraved native wood bases and the Giant Pacific octopus which are created using bronze, recycled totara fence posts and, for the octopus, rusted (cleaned up) wire as part of the base. Two other variants of the octopus have been added to the range, the 'tiny octopus' mounted on a cowrie shell and the mid sized 'dancing octopus' also mounted on recycled totara posts.

He continues to use bone and upcycled ebony as a material for his carving enhanced with various other material such as gold, silver, brass, thread and anything else that will enhance the particular piece he is working on.

Ken lives on a 5 hectare bush clad property in the mid north of New Zealand/Aotearoa with his wife Carol and assorted animals.
