MIKE REEVES
Mike Reeves Ceramics
Ceramic Artist / Potter
Artist Bio:
Nestled in the tranquil beauty of Algies Bay, Mike’s ceramic studio is a dedicated workspace where creativity and craftsmanship come together. He first discovered pottery at the age of seven, sparking a lifelong interest in working with clay. With more than 30 years as a top-end advertising photographer, Mike has cultivated a keen eye for design and detail—an intuitive understanding of form, texture, and balance that now shapes his pottery.
From his studio window, he draws inspiration from the rolling green landscape and the view out to Mahurangi Inlet. Each piece he creates reflects both simplicity and intricate detail, showcasing the patience and dedication poured into his work.
Mike can often be found in his studio well into the evening, refining his skills and ensuring every glaze perfectly complements each form. His ceramics are more than functional—they are expressions of his worldly experiences, drawing on his childhood in Singapore, his young adult years in London, UK, and his adult life in New Zealand.
He is also a well-known and valued member of the local arts community, having served as treasurer and an active contributor to the Kowhai Art and Craft group in Warkworth.
Outside the studio, Mike is an avid fisherman. He and his wife Dianne often take off for days at a time, exploring Kawau Island and venturing out to Great Barrier Island on their boat.
Whether you’re after a beautifully made piece for everyday use or something special to display, Mike’s pottery reflects a deep connection to his surroundings, his craft, and a lifetime of creative experience.
