Samantha completed a Bachelor and Masters degree in Fine Art at Staffordshire University in the late 1990s. During this time, she explored painting, video and installation art. She then lived in Barcelona for a year and also Japan - in Osaka and Tokyo for three years before moving to New Zealand 22 years ago. She has lived in Warkworth for four years.

Colour is at the crux of her work and Samantha utilises colour theory and dynamic symmetry to create her compositions. The process of making art is as important as the end product and she is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of creativity.

Before focusing on ceramics Samantha spent many years focusing on textile and fibre-based making. As her two children grew older and more time became available, she began to experiment again with watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, working in a nonfigurative expressionist style.

After collecting other artists’ ceramics for several years, she is now enjoying working with this medium and is continuing, as she did with fibre and textiles, to create functional and decorative objects with the same philosophy and artistic intent as she approaches a canvas.
