Artist Bio:

Theo Leach is an artist/potter based in Warkworth.

After completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts from AUT in 2008, majoring in photography, Theo spent the subsequent years working behind the camera. During this time, he started to develop a stronger appreciation for the objects he was photographing, their form, and how they interact with the spaces they inhabit. In 2016 he was introduced to pottery and clay, which ultimately led him towards a focus on making with his hands, creating with purpose and spontaneity.

Largely inspired by Japanese pottery techniques, expressionism, and the natural world around him, Theo primarily works on the pottery wheel making forms that are finished with varied glazes and firing methods, utilising electric or wood-fired kilns to produce tactile, somewhat functional objects that showcase their materials and the process of making.

Theo also runs Clay Friends in Matakana with his wife Carly. Here he holds pottery wheel classes and has some of his work available to purchase.
